Living With Intention

Living With Intention

What does it mean to live your life with intention?  We’ve all been in a situation when things didn’t go as planned. Maybe you hurt someone’s feelings, over-reacted or just plain reacted.  You might have thought, “That was not my intention, I screwed up!”  When we don’t act with intention, relationships, goals and desires are hard to make a reality.  Wikipedia defines intention as “a mental state that represents a commitment to carrying out an action or actions in the future.” Intention involves mental activities such as planning and forethought.

Let’s dive a little deeper. Your thoughts, feelings and emotions reflect your past experiences.  Are you allowing these thoughts to fuel your present moment and actions today?  This could mean that you are reaffirming patterns that don’t serve you. The key to overcoming this is creating an intention for your future.  Intention is a vision, a future potential of you or something you want to happen.  An intention tells your future self where you are going and what you’ll be doing.  Consider these questions.  What would it be like to have financial freedom and wealth?  What would it be like if I had all the energy I need to work out and stay focused?  What would it be like to be free from whatever is holding us back?  When you ask these types of questions, your brain goes to work on creating powerful intentions with your past positive experiences and awakens the potential within.  Your thoughts are the language of your brain and your feelings happen in your body and heart.  Inspiration comes from within to fuel your intentions of a future you decide to create.

I encourage everyone to set an intention today. An example could be “I will create a plan for my money and become debt-free.” Once you commit to an intention, courage must follow in order to implement the needed changes in behavior or take action.  Staying intentional allows us to build momentum and remain disciplined. If you do this enough, your intentions will become reality.  Simple, but not easy.
